Microcredentials
What Are Micro-Credentials?
Non-credit microcredentials are a short, discrete set of learning and training experiences designed to help learners improve, develop, and build workforce skills and professional knowledge. A microcredential is a digital representation of a competency that a learner can demonstrate. By earning a microcredential, you are able to identify skills to strengthen your competitiveness as a current student and for post-graduation success.
Microcredentials will be available online, in-person and in hybrid formats and will be taught by ECU faculty, instructors, and qualified staff.
Competency-Based
A competency is a clearly defined and measurable statement of the knowledge, skill and ability a student has acquired in a designated program. Microcredentials define competencies and align assessment tools with learning outcomes. Whether you are a current ECU student, a recent graduate, a seasoned professional, or searching for a new career, microcredentials can signal that you are able to demonstrate in-demand skills.
Career Readiness
Microcredentials enhance career readiness and increase applicant competitiveness in the hiring and recruitment processes. With fast-paced developments in technology redefining some long-standing careers, microcredentials help students, alumni and professionals become more marketable in an increasingly competitive job market. Companies today are seeking candidates with a college degree and tangible proof that they have skillsets that directly translates to their current job descriptions and duties. Prospective employers also want to know that their staff can adapt to change and are willing to learn new skills.
- Develop skills needed to advance in your career

- Demonstrate your adaptability and dedication to continued education
- Improve or develop new skills to strengthen your application competitiveness
Digital Badges
Completion of your microcredential is recorded through a digital badge so your accomplishments travel with you. They serve as a verifiable, digital proof of knowledge and skills earned. Badges can help you build your resume or enhance your LinkedIn or digital portfolio.
