Prerequisites and Requirements

To take this online course, you should have one of the following: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, entrance test, or previous healthcare experience. To qualify for the certification exam, a High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Please check with your state for any specific requirements they might have before registering.

1.  What does an EKG Technician do?
   Electrocardiography (EKG) technicians who apply, monitor, and measure electrocardiography testing are important to any healthcare team. They administer various cardiovascular tests including measuring basic vital signs, performing rapid response procedures, operating an EKG machine, and identifying rhythms.
2. How long does it take to complete a program?
   When you register, you’ll receive six (6) months to complete this program.
3. Is certification necessary for EKG Technicians?
   Over 80% of those hiring EKG technicians require certification. With our EKG Technician training course, you will be fully prepared to sit for one of two national certifications after completing our course. You will have the option of choosing between AECA’s provisional Certified EKG Technician Specialist (CETS) certification exam OR the National Healthcareer Association’s (NHA) Certified EKG Technician (CET) exam.
4. What titles are associated with an EKG Technician?
   According to the National Healthcareer Association, some common titles may include:
   • Monitor Technician
   • Telemetry Technician
   • Biomedical Equipment Technician
5. What skills are important for EKG Technicians?
   EKG technicians need to be able to read, monitor, and report EKG tests precisely and accurately, communicate with doctors, nurses, and other professionals to provide essential healthcare, use electrocardiography equipment, interpret and calculate data, relate to patients and understand the difficulties and stress they may encounter.
6. Can I get financial assistance?
   ed2go courses are non-credit courses, so they do not qualify for federal aid.  In some states, vocational rehab or workforce development boards will pay for qualified students to take our courses.  Additionally, some students may qualify for financial assistance when they enroll, if they meet certain requirements.
7. What happens when I complete the program? 
   Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a certificate of completion from the ECU Office of Continuing Professional Education.
8. When can I start the program?
   Our programs are all open enrollment.  You can register and start the program as soon as you are ready. Please note: Once the program curriculum is accessed online or through submission of a material shipment confirmation, refunds cannot be issued.
